Things to Consider when Buying Kids Toy Chests
Kids toy chests come in a wide assortment of styles, shapes, and sizes. Their popularity comes from the fact that they provide the perfect solution for parents who are looking for a practical way to store and organize their kids' toys, stuffed animals, and other trinkets. Aside from their storage purposes, toy chests also help minimize clutter. Although appearance may play a role in selecting toy boxes, safety must be the primary factor that parents need to keep in mind. Kids love to be around their toys, so you must go for a chest that ensures your child's safety.
More often than not, kids toy chests are built and designed without keeping safety in mind. The Consumer Product Safety Commission states that a toy box that has a hinged lid must be equipped with a lid support that will keep the lid open regardless of its position. When shopping for toy boxes, thoroughly inspect your box of choice, making sure it has the lid supports that are recommended by the commission. Toy chests must be designed for safety. Their lids must have the ability to remain in position when they are opened or lifted up. Thus, the lid supports are the most important thing to consider in selecting your toy boxes. Kids toy chests need to be equipped with lid supports that are well designed. This feature provides parents the assurance that when their kids are bent over their toy boxes, trying to get some of their toys, the lid will not slam down or fall atop the kids.
Other than the lid supports, in their process of selecting toy chests, parents must take into consideration the types of materials used in constructing these. Make sure the chest is free from lead and other toxic chemicals. They must also include adequate air ventilation, a requirement stated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The toy box must also bear a guarantee that it is safe for children of any age.
Kids toy chests need not compromise aesthetics and style for safety. They can be safe and beautiful, too. These toy containers are often made from beautiful wood finishes, such as pecan, dark cherry and white wood. One of the most popular types of toy chests in the market today is the colonial toy chest. This chest is equipped with a seating area and a spacious storage area which is also equipped with detachable dividers. The chest must also be built with casters to enhance mobility. This toy container generally has safety hinges and safety cutouts that avert finger pinching, so you know your kids are in good hands.
Kids toy chests also come in a box ‘n' bench form. This specific style is quite roomy and has a classy look, and children can also use this toy box as a bench to sit on. Safety is not an issue as this type is equipped with the proper lid supports and cutouts. Toy chests of box ‘n' bench type are perfect for any kind of room since these chests are often smaller in size.
You can also use your kids' toy boxes as pieces of furniture. With their unique and stylish looks, they are sure to add charm to any room.

Repaint child's toy chest?
My son has a Wiggles toy chest that was probably bought from Wal-Mart. He's grown out of it. I'd like to turn it into something he can grow with. He has very dark blue walls and camo bedspread. Any creative ideas on repainting the toy chest. It has a wood piece of the wiggles attached to the front with huge screws. Any ideas on covering or filling those?
I don't think he's ever seen the wiggles show. It's really ugly!
It should be easy to paint, you just might need to put a primer on it first to cover all the colors and designs that are already there.
For the wiggles on the front, remove the screws and take it off. You can get putty/spackle or other fillers at any home imporvement store. Fill in the hole, allow to dry, the sand it down before you paint it.
